Who processes your data
The data controller for this site is The Social Code (KvK 78088577), based in the Netherlands. Postal address: Herengracht 611-1V, 1017 CE Amsterdam, The Netherlands · VAT NL861260375B01. youwouldnever.org is a project of The Social Code (thesocialcode.com). We decide what personal data is collected and why; trusted suppliers listed in this policy carry out specific tasks (payments, email, hosting). For questions: hello@youwouldnever.org.
What we collect
Pre-orders: name, contact email, delivery address, country, quantity, and payment-related identifiers from our payment provider (for example a payment reference). We do not store full card numbers or bank credentials; those are handled by Mollie.
Donations: email (required for the receipt), optional name, amount, and payment reference metadata from Mollie.
Newsletter (optional): email address, and whether you opted in via the pre-order form or the standalone signup. The list is hosted with EmailOctopus.
Technical data: when you use the site, hosting and infrastructure (for example Firebase / Google Cloud) may log standard server or security information such as IP address, device type and coarse location derived from the connection – mainly to keep the site secure and reliable.
Why we use it (legal bases)
We use pre-order and payment data to perform the contract with you (take payment, ship the Book, contact you about delays or delivery). We use donation data to perform the donation and send a receipt. We send newsletter messages only on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We rely on legitimate interests (and, where needed, legal obligations) for fraud prevention, bookkeeping and improving the site, balanced against your rights.
Transactional emails (order and payment confirmations, shipping updates, and a one-time email confirming your newsletter signup) are sent through MailerSend and are service messages related to a request you made–not the marketing newsletter itself, which is sent separately via EmailOctopus when you have opted in. The signup confirmation includes a one-click unsubscribe link; it removes you from the same EmailOctopus list as our newsletter.
How long we keep it
We keep order and accounting records for at least as long as tax and commercial law requires (often several years after the transaction). Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or the list provider deletes inactive contacts according to their settings. You can ask us to delete or restrict data where the law allows, subject to legal retention duties.
Who we share with
Data is shared only as needed with: Mollie (payments), MailerSend (transactional email), EmailOctopus (newsletter contacts you opted into), Google (Analytics, only if you opt in via the site prompt), and infrastructure providers that host the site and related services (for example Firebase / Google Cloud). Some of these may process data outside your country; where required we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses approved in the EU).
Your rights
Depending on where you live – especially in the EEA or UK – you may have rights to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to certain processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Analytics (Google)
With your permission (via the prompt at the bottom of the site), we load Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregated use of pages and features–for example which sections people read–so we can improve the site and the campaign for the book. Analytics uses cookies or similar storage in your browser; we do not use Google Analytics to show you personalised ads on other websites. You can decline analytics in the prompt; you can also reset your choice later by clearing site data for this domain in your browser and loading the site again.
Cookies
This site is built as a lightweight marketing and checkout experience. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Besides analytics (only if you opt in), essential cookies or storage may be used by our payment flow or host where technically necessary.
